 Director

Thomas Moore

I am currently the Assistant Director of Music at the Cathedral in Wakefield, having specific responsibility for the training of the girl choristers. I've been here for nearly seven years now, and along side this work, I also work at the Wakefield Grammar School Foundation, and Cliff School. During my years here, I have also worked with Halifax Choral Society, Yorkshire Philharmonic Choir, and Overgate Hospice Choir. Before coming to Wakefield, I had spent four years as Assistant Organist at Peterborough Cathedral, the latter part of which was spent watching and helping the Cathedral recover from the devastating arson attack which came so close to destroying the building.

I have been delighted to realise that the Consort is held in very high regard in the area, and this has come to my attention through a steady stream of requests to join the group! My intention however is to not expand the group, and to barely tamper with the membership at all. The members work well together as a choir and as a team of friends, and it is excellent to have such a professional "chamber choir" active in the area. Having said that, it was recognised that a few more men would be of benefit to the Consort, and we are pleased to welcome Charles Beal and Michael Benn to the back rows. These two gents are known to Consort as their wives are singers in the group too!

The Consort Strings, led by Les Krzystowski, regularly play at Subscription Concerts to enable larger chamber works to be performed.  Other instrumentalists are used as and when required.  The Consort is also able to call upon professional organists at concerts.

From time to time, opportunities may arise for new singers to join the choir.  Sight reading ability is required as is a good sense of humour!  Please visit the Contact Us page for further details.
